We’re installing a Mezzo60 fireplace in one of our current homes. I framed the mantle out of wood; and followed the clearance requirements of the “non-combustable” section rather than the combustible section; because we will wrap the wood mantle in durarock and tile. I however began second guessing myself due to heat transfer and am considering ripping it down and replacing with steel studs. What are your thoughts on this? Would you have any issues with the Mezzo60 if we wrapped wood with durarock and tile? We are projected 9″ from the wall; and 15″ above the glass opening per the manual. I have a hard time imagining them allowing a fireplace to be built that would start a mantle on fire 15″ away… that wouldn’t burn a kids hand above the glass etc… general thoughts on Mezzo60?

Could you do the legwork and post the links to the installation specs for this unit?
Thanks

I would pull the wood framing and do it in metal as you are thinking.
Would sleep better on those cold nights when the fireplace gets left on.
