We have a midcentury prefab from Scholz homes built in 1953. As with everything one does in the construction process design standards have changed. Originally the store front glass wall and several very large 42 inch wide and 80 inch tall windows had LOF glass. We found a service to replace the glass with current design thermo pane for a reasonable price compared to a full insert and frame replacement.
Now for our latest design issue. We have 3 – 42 inch wide windows. Two are fixed and the center is a swing out almost like a door, where the screen or storm glass is on the inside blocking the way to open the center glass. The header is a 2×10 with 2-2×4 supports on each side of the center window. Before we removed the trim we hoped to install a slider with a 42 inch door. That will not be a possibility because of the structure limitations. Does anyone know of a company that can supply a 43 1/2 rough opening 42 inch exterior door assembly with a full height venting glass insert?

I might be reading this wrong.
But. A window that opens almost like a door is a casement window. Is that what you are looking for?
