I have a Super Sawzall with the quick blade change. The plastic collar that you turn to change the blade has worn out several times. In the past the local tool store had them for 25 cents. Now Milwaukee sells this part in a $14.00 kit only, they no longer sell it separately. Has anyone found this part in the aftermarket? I contacted Milwaukee to voice my complaint. I’ve had the sawzall for 6 years and this is the only part that keeps wearing out. Anyone else have this problem? -Ed

On my Sawzall, if I'm not mistaken, the collar is metal. Maybe the $14.00 kit has the metal collar?.............. might be worth it.
Ditto jc. I just bought a Super Sawzall (and was I impressed!) and the blade release is metal.
Sometimes I pull the saw out of the case just to pull the trigger and feel the power.
Yeow.
I also just bought a Super Sawzall (upon all the recommendations here), and if I'm correct, it has a metal collar too. Haven't gotten to use it yet, though...hope it's better than the DeWalt that my old boss bought!Quality before Quantity
I believe the plastic part in question is tossed by most. The collar is metal, however there is a plastic ring that makes the collar easier to turn. Until it cracks, then it is easier to just toss it....that's not a mistake, it's rustic

Jeff,
The plastic collar also functions as a spring retainer. The tool will work without it, but you have to manually press the blade retaining pin back in to get it to lock.

Jon, you're exactly right, plust it keeps you from burning you fingers on blade changes. I'm just pissed because the part is still being manufactured and not available separaely. The customer service rep said that she would write this up and get it over to the right people then follow up with a phone call..........we'll see what happens...........-Ed
EDJW,
MKE Tool makes a SawzAll blade holder for hand work. Basically the entire quick release attached to a plastic handle. they go for about $7.95 and $6.95 on sale. Obviously way cheaper to buy one from the local big box and gut it for "parts."
Yeah, the the collar breaking (from impact) is pretty common. I've gone through two myself. Mentioned it to an MKE Tool engineer once, (we do some prototyping work for them) He didn't seem to be aware of the problem. IMO, right now, nobody's working on a fix, and @ $14.00 for a kit, they're making money.
Jon
My original had the metal collar and once it broke the replacement was the plastic but it has worked well since, knock on wood.
I'd called Milwakee about it and they sent me the plastic replacement free of charge without asking.
Pretty good followup on their PR team if you ask me.
