HD has dropped thier price to $499.00 and now are throwing in a Ridgid saw stand for free, offer is good until sometime in December. I have been looking at this saw for a while, but really couldn’t justify the price, when I have a perfecly good Milwaukee 10 inch slider. Well this deal definetly sent me over the edge. I recently sold a Makita LXT “lunch box set” and with some birthday money was able to justify it or at least that’s what I am telling myself, junkies always have to reason with them selves. LOL
I would like to here from anybody who has this saw, pros and cons

Yippee! I did it! I finally did it!
I grew a set and fell over the fence.
Opened up a CC account there and got it for $450 plus tax.
Now I just have to find room in the basement to take it out of the box.
Have ya grown a set big enough to tell your wife you bought the saw? <G>
No, that's why he's keeping it in the basement."Put your creed in your deed." Emerson

Ouch! Those are MY raisinets your talkin' about, man.Glenn

I've worked with Glenn a bit.
He talks about his wife, but I haven't met her. From what I understand, he's well over a foot taller than she is (he's like 6'5").
And he's a little afraid of her.
He's smarter than he looks <G>
A little afraid? In the end, it's not about what she WILL do to me, it's what she WON'T do to me.I'm 6'5". She's 5'2".The Green Giant and Sprout.Glenn
Yeah, she knows. I don't hide things from her or lie to her.Unless I'm going to get into alot of trouble. This time I saved HER alot of money shopping.Guess what we're cutting oak railing with in the basement. It's pretty heavy, so maybe I will lift it instead of you.You have a habit of dropping things. Hehehe.Glenn
My wife thinks it silly I still call it "getting in trouble". But she bitches me out worse than the kids. When I was real little we would say, " your in dutch now", wonder if that had any reference to Denmark?
I'll use that term at times. But I can't complain about my wife. She makes most of the money, and doesn't bitch much about the things I haven't done for her yet. And she could.Glenn
Hey, Glenn-
I sent you an e-mail, but I just remembered...
We're leaving on Tuesday, the 17th. So if everything goes well this week, I may have Monday, the 16th available.
I'll have a better handle on things around the middle of the week.
Is this the Milwaukee 12": slider?
Oh yeah. 77 pounds of it.Glenn
Achhhh! I'm really torn. I really want that saw because of the lights, dust collection and the digital readout.
But.....I already have the DW 12" slider which is....not a bad saw, but it doesn't have those features, and those are important. In fact the dust collection on the DW is a joke.
But....the DW is a much lighter & a bit smaller saw with the same cut capacities.
I don't need the miter saw stand. I'm wondering if I can get more of a deal with HD to not take the stand. Also wondering how much I could get for the DW saw. It's like new.Decisions decisions...
I feel your pain. I struggled with making this decision for quite a while and finally had a job that paid me pretty well, and I thought it was a real good deal, and everyone raves about the saw.......Just felt I shouldn't pass it up. But I didn't already have a slide. My DW 705 is good, but limited.I doubt they'll take anything off if you don't take the stand. Sell it on Ebay.Glenn
Tashler, that's what I upgraded from a DW705. The switch and brushes on the 705 started getting creaky. It's now my rough cut saw and the MKE is for the finer things in life.
I've been pondering the same questions. I never liked my DW slider -- the fence tips back a full 1/16", making it useless for stand-up mitering of base, although it's fine for crown. After reading the FHB review, the MW got on my radar. It looks like a good saw. But SOO big and heavy. The DW has been bad enough -- I use my first-generation Hitachi slider whenever possible. I use the DW only for framing or large crown.I had been eying the Kapex because of the combination of quality, capacity, and light weight. But when you can get 3 MWs for the price of one Kapex? I'd have to have a note from my doctor to get a Kapex past SWMBO!AitchKay
Well I also have the DW 705 from 15 years ago, it's been rebuilt once. Now that is a GREAT saw, and I do roughly 80% of my work with it. It's the reason I bought the 718 slider, I just thought it would be the same quality. I'm in the middle of oak tread & riser retro-fits and I need the slider at the moment.. The DW 718 fence is actually fine on mine, but I notice the tiniest bit of wobble in the blade, it doesn't happen with the same blade on the 705. It's very minute, but when I hold a micrometer up to it, it's there. It doesn't affect the work so much as an off kilter fence or a wandering cut, but it still bugs me. I was out just this morning and I see the deal they offer, but it's not $499, it's for $545.
I decided that I can't justify it for now. Ask me in a day or two and I may have a different answer.
stop by your post office, pick up a change of address,it has a 10 off lowes coupon. hd will honor it.
the older i get ,
the more people tick me off
I've had one for I don't know how long...maybe a year now?
I didn't even have MKE on my radar screen when I went saw shopping, but after comparing several, I kept coming back the MKE. I was sort of torn because I'd seen no reviews about it. But ergonomically it was so comfortable, and I liked the size of the bed and fence, and the action of the saw. Plus I was shopping for a 10" slider and this MKE was a 12".
But I caved and bought the 12" MKE. About a month or two after I bought it FHB did a mini-review and named it the best slider. I concur!
Zero complaints. Well, I would have liked a brighter work light.
We had a few threads about it way back when. I sort of considered the digital readout and the "micro-adjust" to be a gimmick, but it's rock solid and repeatable. That makes it really worth while, especially with built-up crown or some other built-up molding. You can leave a setting, then reset it with accuracy to repeat an angled cut.
Dust chute is good by itself, with dust removal it's exceptionally good.
Large bed and a nice fence. I haven't heard any complaints from any owners of this saw about the fence being out of alignment.
The negative? It's big. Takes up a lot of depth, I had to pull my saw stand out away from the wall.
It is heavy, but portable. I've been lugging it around for the past couple of days.
A good saw.
