I was curious if you all had a minimum charge for doing small jobs that might only take an hour or two to complete.

Yes.
A minimum charge for jobs less than an hour, which includes an hour's labor rate and some travel time.
I almost always quote jobs on a fixed bid basis, and I don't give free estimates. Used to, and spent a lot of time having people try to get free advice out of me.

Yes, tho subject to waiver should I choose. Usually I charge a minimum of 4 hours for any project less than a half days work.
You have to have a minimum charge
You have to cover
-travel time
-vehicle expense
-Your or employee labor
-Equipment cost- tools
Just remember the last time you took your truck to a mechanic, how were you billed.
We all need to make money, don't feel guilty to make a profit!
We call it a small job premium...
Certain upcharge to make small jobs worthwhile... but maintain a reasonable hourly rate for smaller jobs.
yes....im not about to put tools in the truck and drive to a job for $30
I've gotten a couple 10
I've gotten a couple 10 thousand dollar jobs as a result of that 30 dollar job.
Not something that happens regularly, but not something to brush off withouth thinking.
Advertising costs money.
or time.
Been a while since I was in business for myself.
Mostly subcontract stuff.
ALWAYS a half day minimum.
I liked to be honest about it. I would expalain the reasoning and tell the customer that they were paying for half a day so they might as well either wait lump a few small things together and use a half a day.
