I’m doing a renovation on my bathroom and adding a shower. The way I have it planned is to have a shower door that measures about 23 inches wide. I can’t go much wider because there is a toilet right next to the opening. Is there a code that governs such things and, if so, does anyone know what the minimum width for a shower door is?
Thanks for your help.

I don't know about code unless ADA applies, but I have ahd shower doors as small as 19" with a few at 22" and no customer complaints

2003 IBC has no mention of width, so there is an amendment for a clear opening of 22" proposed.
If you don't stand behind the troops, why don't you try standing in front of them. Bumper sticker
There is not a code here in NC.
23" is really not unusual. It's just not very practical to have a 3-0 (for example) glass door swinging into a bathroom area unless you have a pretty good sized bathroom. I guess you could have a larger slider if you had a 72" shower.... That's a pretty big shower...
Like Piff said, if you are in a situation that has ADA requirements, all bets are off. They they would probably be looking for a 2-8 clear, wide opening with no more than a 1/4" lip at the bottom.
It must be an minimum of 22" wide and open outward.
When I did a bathroom earlier this year (in CA), the glass place I had the door made at said I needed by code something like 20-21". Either way, I figure 23" to be good, barring ADA regs.
Observing the wide-ends in our Walmart here in Wisconsin, 48" might be appropriate if you wish to accommodate all potential guests. You should also get the wider toilet seats and double the exhaust fan rating for cf per minute.
That's very funny, but moot--if they're loaded wide enough to require a 48" shower door, they are too wide to fit through the bathroom door! The heavy duty exhaust fan is a good idea though...
