I am just as busy as ever in my stairshop…I just lately have been posting gyrocopter pictures.
Well…..to support my addiction and flying habit….I build curved stairways. I still refuse to call it a job…but my occupation. I have a passion for anything that climbs and turns. By day I build climbing and turning stairways…after hours…I fly climbing and turning gyrocopters.
Here are some pictures. The left stairway still has its bullnose starting step to be added…..the right stairway is just now hatching out. I can have the rest of the treads installed in one day if I didnt have to go fly. <G>

Interesting stuff. I can just imagine a bunch of kids running up one side and down the other...

BTW - We'll be in your neck of the woods on the 30th and 31st. Will you be around either of those days?
Boss: Our family Christmas is on Saturday the 30th...then the following day Barb and I are taking off to western Illinois....driving not flying...darn it.

Stan,As always great work. Do you glue up the cherry treads or buy blanks?Chuck Slive, work, build, ...better with wood
Oh sure - You always leave the area when I'm up that way.I'm beginning to think you don't REALLY want to see me.(-:
How many people thought of the Post-It note before it was invented but just didn't have anything to jot it down on?
Boss: Sorry you feel that way....especially after I personally invited you and Carl up to my stairshop on a weekday for a shop tour. The invitation still stands....come up on a weekday and with a few days notice will arrange my out of shop stairwork around the visit. <G>

But my latest looks like a trestle!

Do you use some sort of jig on a shaper for the nosing returns? Do you have pics of how you do it?
reinvent: I just use a jig made out of mdf to make my tread returns. I use a pattern following bit. I dont have any pictures right now...but if you look back in the archives...there are hundreds of how to pics I posted.
I slowed down posting how to pictures as I fairly well spilled everything I knew......and I felt others could contribute much more.

Dear Santa,
May I have a "clamp tree", with clamps, for Christmas, please? Please review picture number 1128m in this series if you have any questions.
Thank you and Merry Christmas!
