ok well I have another miter saw question, I think I’m going to go with Bosch, just wondering what the general thoughts are on a regular 12″ compound, versus a slider?
Also, is it me, or has delta really slid down hill with there miter saws, I have an older 10″ and its solid as a rock, just to heavy to carry with me, but their new saws look like they are all plastic and cheap. anyone own one that can say anything positive or negative? I really like all the other delta tools i have, but the miter saws look kind of cheap and lower then their usual standards

Cag,
Go with the slider. I have a ten inch Makita that I have had for 5 years now. It is a great saw, not much if any heavier than a 12 in. compound, and far more useful than it's non-sliding counterpart. If you get a slider make sure you get the double bevel model. I would recommend you either make or buy a dedicated stand for it and mount it on wheels. The slider excels at crown molding as you can lay the wood flat on the table and cut it. This removes most of the potential for error due to minor inconsistencies in the angle the crown would be held against the fence if cut in the normal manner. You can also cut much wider crown than if done the other way not to mention the ability to cut wide s4s material as well as bevel it. Another advantage is that you can get more capacity from a ten inch blade on a slider than from a twelve inch blade on a compound miter. The smaller blades are definitely cheaper and in my view have less wobble/deflection than the larger blades.

As I already have the Hitachi 8.5" SCMS.The 12" dewalt 706 would be the saw I would pick. I have the 705 and the remote motor on the 706 is a bonus worth having.
I also have the 10" Makita Sliding Compound saw. Model LS1013. It is a very accurate saw. Hope this helps
