I have a client buying a home that needs the roof replaced. The sellers insurrance is willing to pick up the tab except for 7 squares they replaced just over a year ago,(15mths).
My concern is matching, but more the irregular balance of wear. Worring too much?
I know when I was young I shingled a big old barn for a friend of my Dad’s. The guy had dozens of pallets of all colors and brands. Thr roof looked like dried fall corn when I got done. But within the year it was obvious that some of the shingles were wearing out to fast.

They wouldn't match if they were a week old unless they came from the same batch.
Wear in 15 months should be negligible, maybe 20 years from now they wear out first.
Although a roof that got a half patch a year before might be waiting for disaster anyway.

Ya, I'm not greatly worried but having seen all those different shingles cheese out over the years it made me wonder.
The first thing I would worry about is you would be expected to warranty the whole roof. The rest the customer would just have to agree to accept.
Due to the recent state of the economy, the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off
I'm doing other work. I suggested the buyer just pay for the 7 sqs themselves since they sound like they would have wanted a different color. That way they get around the issue.
