Mixing tradition and modern molding styles

Most of my house is traditional chair rail and ogee box moulding. I would like to use board and battan style for my family room to give it a more modern look. Is that a no-no?
Engineered-stone shower panels are waterproof, but proper installation relies on tight seams and silicone sealing.

been a carpenter for over 40 years and have never heard of ogre box mldg. Have done board and batten on the exterior several times.
iF you could show me an example of the current mldg and what this interior finish you propose, I might be able to provide an answer. Same almost goes for the chair rail, as there's old hefty rail and then there's the way less pronounced facsimile.
thanks
Don't understand Ogee box moulding. Are you talking about the board & batten above the existing chair rail?
Been in the design/build business for over 50 years and would not consider boad & batten a modern look. It's been around forever.. When I think "board & batten, I first think of and an exterior finsh.. I suppose it would depend on the scale and style.
But if that is the look you want go for it.
