Many homes around here (North Texas) have been built without a weather resistant barrier(WRB). Many of the the homes that have WRB are done poorly or just plain wrong. Our tradespeople are not dumb..they just have not been shown what to do. It is not standard practice.
You can’t just give a crew a roll of tyvek and some tape and tell them to wrap the house. I noticed this to be a problem with Gunner’s project. If you hand them an EEBA manual…it will probably end up in the trash pile.
Has anyone out there built wall mock-ups to show the crew what you expect? What about step by step photos? or videos that can be watched on a laptop?

Seems to me a mockup with a small (freight-damaged) window would be fairly easy to do and quite helpful. Ideally slice the window in half vertically so it's easier to see the treatment of the head and sill.
Might check with the wrap companies to see if they have something they loan out.

That sort of thing can not only help training crews, but can be used as a sales tool for the customer. One guy I know here had a customer who just could not visualize a complicated soffit and crown detail from the drawings. So he built a mock up on site at ground level to let the customer see what he was going to get for his money.

Especially if we are going to start introducing things like rain screen furring strips and rigid insulation.
Integrating the housewrap, the flashing, the window fin, the rigid insulation, the cladding, the trim and the structure..... is very difficult to show with an illustration
And it should look good...(the relationship of the trim to the cladding and the window frame)

Our HBA has offered to start building some mock-ups..I am looking for ideas
maybe they should be half-scale so they are more portable?
maybe they should be made from foam so they are light weight?
