There was a nice discussion on the elements of butler’s pantries of long ago. Here is a modern take on it. The ceiling lattice at 7/4 to its bottom, filters light from cans above in the 9/0 ceiling. At the end of the little box canyon, you turn right into the laundry room.

That's nice.
The cabinets so low over the counter look like they would tend to trap stuff, and make the counter not very useful- like they are in the photo.
I wonder how many people need that much food storage these days? Some of us are very appreciative of a well cooked meal, and want to have the ingredients on hand for it, while another segment of the population has no time for cooking at all, and barely needs a kitchen.

I agree on the low space between the cabs. But other than than ... you must not be married. DW ... I mean we ... don't have need for a lot of food storage, but we sure have collected a lot of crap ... I mean kitchen acessories ... over the years. About twicwe a week I hear comments about lack of storage space.

Pretty! I like the ceiling detail.

Nice finish. Do you have a plan or a SU 3-D view?
Eric
Just finished doodling all the structural elements of the house in SU, and will pop in the lattices, or at least their railings, next. Here is the floor plan, from the website that sells the plan set.

It should be evident when you look at the kitchen area in the plan, where the fridge is located. Directly across the kitchen is the entry to the pantry, and you can see the island. I set my camera on the corner of that island to take that shot looking into the pantry. The ceiling lattice runs from the fridge into the dead end in the pantry.
Can you post or pm a link to that floor plan? Thanks.

That looks awesome.
How do you change the bulbs in the cans?
The lattice is made of main side rails, each one a 1x4 with a 1" wide x 3/4" thick lip running continuously along the bottom inside edge. The lip is glued and biscuited to the rail.
The lattice goes in in easy-to-handle sections made up of 3/4 x 2-3/4 slats and siderails, each section about 18 inches long by lattice width, and the sections set into the rails.
Small screws fix the sections in place, bracing the rails well. Lattice sections underneath each can light are not screwed in place, and readily pop out by shoving up from below.
Beautiful!
