Any recommendations for a good, not expensive moisture meter for a handy-ish homeowner? I need it for drywall and firewood, and would like to go pinless, unless convinced otherwise… The Klein for around $40 would be great, but if it’s worth it to spend $100 for a Lignomat, I’d consider it. (I searched the forums and the most recent recommendation is 12 years old…)

I’ve had a lignomat mini pin meter for a long time.
Use it regularly when splitting and stacking, now that I retired.
Checked flooring and various joinery and trim when working.
Your post about drywall reminded me that a couple times I took readings checking Sheetrock moisture content hunting for water entry locations.
Thanks for your advice. After reading your input and reading up on the different option, I think I'll go with the Lignomat.
Here’s a tip.
We heat with wood so we generate a fair amount of ash. While it’s good for many plants and I mix it with the compost, there’s still plenty left.
We have a 500 ft stone drive back to the house and it runs uphill to the street. NW Ohio winters often bring snot snow and freezing nights. I once rode my van all the way back stopping just short of the house after an ice storm. Pretty well shaded, so not much chance of getting back up the drive.
Tried sawdust for traction, not much.
Had some salt……..just melted down through the ice.
Have a cat, so tried litter……blah.
What the heck, had several drywall buckets of it and sprinkled some of that in front of the tires….
Instantaneous traction. Did the usual tracks up the drive and so easy I should sell it. All the stuff sold for instant traction you keep in the trunk. Can’t come close to ash.
