The cedar siding on my house has developed a black mold over the last year. It is sided with horizontal T&G cedar and all the siding was backprimed with penofin prior to install. It then received a coat of Penofin annually for the next 2 years.
I suspect the last application was applied to heavily and not wiped off properly. I have discussed with Penofin’s technical dept. and they suspect that the mold exists within the excessive residual oil. I have cleaned a small area and the wood is in perfect shape.
I am going to get the siding cleaned and there are plenty of people who do that out here in the Hamptons. Just wanted to get any suggestions / warnings regarding chemical strippers, power washing, etc.

One thing I know about power washing is if the pressure is just a little too high it will dig out the soft wood between the grain, leaving it looking like they took a heavy duty wire brush to it. I'm sure the contractor doing the power washing is aware of this and knows what he's doing. Just want to bring it to your attention.

Yes that is one of my concerns, thanks.
I'd go back to the techs at Penofin for advice.
