Mold & Mildew

Recently on inspecting a crawl space in a 9 year old house, I found limited venting with a moisture reading of 17%. On the wood beams were mold and mildew. My question is, will added ventilation stop the mold and mildew from damaging the wood or should the wood be treated with something like a bleach solution?
