I keep seeing more and more articles in trade publications concerning problems associated with mold. However, I am specifically interested in mold which might form on firred out masonry walls. In finished basements, I typically install 4 mil poly vapor barrier behind 2 x 4 stud walls with 3-1/2″ R-11 batt insulation and sheetrock. I’m concerned with mositure and possible formation of mold between poly and masonry. Has anyone experienced problems with firred basement walls?
I’ve been told that chlorine bleach will kill mold. If I spray basement walls with a bleach solution prior to construction, will that prevent the formation of mold should any dampness occur on the walls at a later date?
Other solutions?
