For some reason, we get a mold smell in the basket of our clothes washer. We ran a cycle with Clorox to address it, but it remains. Something must be under the basket that has gotten wet? It doesnt smell without the door open. Anyone experience this?
Thx, Tom

Front loader?
Use less detergent, and more hot water cycles.
Too much detergent, and it doesn't all disolve. Running with mostly cold water cycles and it doesn't all disolve.
At least that is what the service guy told us, and it seems to be working.
Run a bunch of cycles without adding detergent or clothing, to rinse it out.

It is a Maytag top loader. I recently read that Maytags store lint in the center tube...will have to check that out. Thanks for your suggestion, will try that too.

Good question. HO has complained that her washer has a smell, and I have noticed it when I'm in the laundry room. It's a top load Maytag, and she uses liquid soap. How do you get to the lint trap?
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.
I have to figure that out myself. There is a site online that discusses this, I have to get my model number and talk to them about it: http://www.repairclinic.com/0003.asp
had this problem once, took the agitator off and found allot of long threads from a wrag rug wrapped aroung the base of the draive shaft thingamijig ..
How did the agitator come off? I was looking at it last night, does it just "unscrew" off?

sorry Dude, that was way too long ago for me to remember .. but good luck, there's gotta be a fur ball in there somewhere ..
Add borax to the wash for a while.
A person with no sense of humor about themselves, has no sense at all.
It's in a Maytag top loader where I have smelled the mold odor.
leave the lid open between loads
