I am leaning toward using mold tough sheetrock for basement project after using densarmor for my bathroom. I don’t want to have to skim coat, leave rough texture paint finish, or have some damaged sheets due to its flexibility.
I have a question about its biocide, however. The biocide I used to use to keep the humidifier water clean had a label that said it was not allowed in California because it can cause cancer. On the other hand, it seems biocide is in everything these days, even in my plastic dish drying rack. Also, the humidifier would have spread the the biocide into the air.
I was wondering if there could be some off-gassing issues about the mold tough sheetrock, and if anybody from California could respond if this drywall is sold in that state. Thank you.

From my reading the "Mold Tough" material is listed as proprietary technology. That said, what is the chemical they use that's on California's prop 65 list?
I don't know what is used in mold tough. I have also forgotten what was used in the humidifier water cleaner. I search the issue on mold and saw a name of biocide that is zinc-something. I don't know if that is used in mold tough. I had a thought that biocide in moldtough is probably locked into the material so as long as it does not become dust it would be ok to use. I just wondered if there would be off-gassing issue. Although I hope the manufacturer did consider this issue, I would like to know if I am using this in a house with small kids, someone with allergy or just someone who is cautious. I don't want to find out 10-20 years later that this was just poison to people.
I will research into that law in California and plan to call the company about this. Thank you for the reply.
Look up the MSDS.And look at a number of products that you currently use. Paint thinners, paint removers, cleaners, and see how many have a CA Prop 65 warning on them. And read what the requirements are for prop 65..

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
