Monday , Monday –can’t trust that day

theslateman | Posted in Photo Gallery on December 8, 2008 08:53am

Left a small copper SS bay roof Friday afternoon not quite finished before quittin time.  Was 45 degrees when we left.

This morning was 5 degrees with gusting NW winds of 30 +.

Still have to double lock the hips and a little soldering     Tues. will be better  !!

Walt, don't you hate when that happens?

Time of the year.  I woke up this mrning with it 10 degrees and my brand new furnace not shutting down.  Something is wrong.

'Twas a bit on the nippy side today.

problem, is - there is rain coming in with that heat wave.

I just finished a bunch of exterior door replacements today. Next up is a bathroom demo/redo.

I still get to go back to the door job though. Locksmith sent over all 2-3/8" backset stuff when I specified 2-3/4"! Argh!!! I blamed that on Monday too, but they did it friday and I just found out.

Gonna go finish that one up today.

The wind was whipping too much to make for a comfortable time yesterday.

I miss the snow -- grew up in Wisconsin, now in Oregon.

Here we work in the rain...  don't like it a bit, but gotta do it.

I much preferred the snow.  Just brush off and get to work.

Everything all beautiful and sparkly--like that little roof!

Usually snow isn't too much of a headache , but with the wind and icy underneath I postponed until this morning.

      1. brownbagg | Dec 09, 2008 02:39pm | #6

had to work in 45 degree weather yesterday, damn I dont like that. Glad the wind wasnt blowing. Almost had to go to the truck and get my jacket.

  4. FastEddie | Dec 09, 2008 05:12pm | #7

Do you fabricate the roof any differently when it's that cold, knowing that's about as cold as it will get and the panels will get much larger in the heat of the summer?

      Eddie,

The install was last week when it was 40 degrees or more.

So no I didn't do anything differently than usual  -- the panels are about 21 " wide so they can expand if need be when it's 90 here.

    Beautiful work!!

    What's the size?

What's a good price for materials on this piece of art?  ;>)

    1. theslateman | Dec 09, 2008 08:00pm | #10

      Thanks Bill,

This small roof is about 6' up the panel  , almost 13' across the front and 5.5' out from the wall.

Copper sheet is still pricey here until inventories are reduced and my suppliers order more.

Remember to bring the camera along !!

Went to finish up this morning and it started snowing again  , will change to rain tonite and tomorrow  - then back to cold .

Just a couple hours left  and a chimney abutting a wall to make a half cricket for.

I've been using my phone for pics but getting them into my comp. is tough..I have to email myself, but my phone won't work at home, so I forget.  I have to be on the road to send my pics. Or remember to take the "Real" camera, when I can steal it away from the wife.

I got some good shots yesterday when I opened a wall and swapped out a window head, behind 1830's clapborads, and added a header in a balloon frame wall..got it all buttoned back up in 6 hours, but man I was FLYING to beat the storms and get it all back and caulked in. I'll try to get them posted.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Love to see your pics of that repair/ restoration.

Have you got Grant making up some of the copper for the flat seam with gutters ?

I sent him a check, so, I HOPE SO! LOL

Yeah, he pre-tins the pans and has a much better brake than I, for the pans..I could do the gutter with mine, but he is faster and better than I. That is IF I give him good measurements, he only bends what I draw..so if I screw up that part..well, you know.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks
