Has anyone ever tried or seen the Mooney wall technique with the furring strips on a diagonal? It seems like it would make a hell of a braced wall. The old homes with the sub-sheathing on a diagonal would still be standing(some are) today if they would have been maintained.

it seems that drywall does not really need to "course out" with the "backer framing"
I only realized last week that floating the drywall past the structure is a good concept. Actually floating any material beyond the structure may be a good idea.
The fasteners would work much better away from the edge
