Hi Everyone:
My question is as follows:
A friend of mine lives in Florida in a Ranch style house. House is
basically all brick built on a slab. He has 3 gables, one on each side
and one in the front of the house. These have been faced with wood
vertically, tongue and groove from the top of the last brick line to the peak of the roof.(approx, 16ft)
He would like to remove this siding and continue the brick all the way up.
Will the existing wall support this additional bricking? Is a lintal,
or rebar needed for support?
What would be the best procedure? If additional information is needed
please let me know.
Thanks to all, Mark

Mark,
The existing brick wall should easily support the weight of the proposed brickwork. The compressive strength of brick varies but it often exceeds that of structural concrete. You would need lintels to span any openings, of course, and the exterior wythe of brick would have to be tied to either a masonry or a wood framed structure.
