Had the chimney built, but the wife now thinks the mortar joint is too white. Not inside the house- on the outside. Anybody know of any tricks to tone down the color, other than waiting around for 15 or 20 years?

Saw a mason use acid to make the mortar joints more brown, don't know what effect this would have long-term.
I know coffee works great on tile grout, just look in my kitchen.....
