As part of a major reconstruction of our home I am installing a total of 20 new doors with “Victorian” style mortise lock sets. The mortise lock face plate measures 6″ tall by 7/8″ wide and the lock box measures 4″ tall, 5/8″ wide.
Any recommendations what tool/jig to use to help with installing these mortise locks? I have quite the assortment of tools, including a Delta mortiser – however I don’t have any specific tools to address this project. I’ve seen the Porter-Cable 513P Lock Mortiser – the pricing is more than I would like to spend.

that lock mortice tool you mentioned, porter cable, should be availible at a rental place, make sure you get the proper bit, and pay attention to the adjustment.... the height of the mortice.
no turn left unstoned
If you can't afford the tool, you'll need a sharp, long shanked 5/8" chisles and lots of patience, not in that order.
Go out of your way to rent the PC tool that Panama recommends. The mortise lock specialist that I hired to do my 15 new doors uses this very same tool. Rent it then do a few practice runs.
