Mosquito magnet

kbd | Posted in Energy, Heating & Insulation on March 30, 2007 06:05am

Has anyone hitched up their Mosquito Magnet to their home propane system? Filling those 20 lbs cylinder is a pain. If so where did you get the fittings? I have the gas line in the yard already because of the propane grill. It is 1/2 ” black pipe.  Kevin

Take a trip down to your local propane supplier and ask them.

Best place to get info and parts.

What do you think of the thing? I've wondered how well they work.

      Boss,

The machine has made my backyard and deck useable. I have had it for three years. Before the MM I could not eat out there and had to use Cutter's to mow the yard. Now, I can eat out there without being bitten. The trick is to start the MM early in the season and continue it. The pain is  the 20lbs containers. They last about three weeks. I have a big propane tank for the house and would like to use that but the company will only comment on 20 lbs cans. The propane supplier wants technical info that I can't get from MM. That is why I am posting.

How big are the house tanks?  There may be an issue with regulating the pressure.  I would like to do the same thing with my gas grill though.

All they should really need to know is the regulator pressure. The flow rate is inconsequental -- 20lb every 3 weeks, running continuously.

I hooked up my MM last spring and it worked great. The propane company did the install for me. They hooked up the grillzilla, smoker, and MM. No more cans. I got a hundred gallon tank and they give me a break on the price for buying bulk. I want to get a gas powered generator for hurricane season. The propane guys said they'd pipe that for me when I get it. Most of the fittings were purchased at the local Ace Hardware. The only new regulator needed was for the grill. The others worked out fine.

If others have done this, then I guess it's ok to hook up to house. Only thing I'm curious about is that It have a few friends with them, and they've all said that while they work great when it's still, they need to move them when it's breezy. I guess because  Kinda hard if they're " hard -piped"

Well cousin Bruce's company is not helpful on the phone, they will not give any info except 20 lbs tanks. They would not tell me anything about the right regulator. There is no info on their web site.

I have never moved mine and it works fine. The only trick I know is starting early to break the breeding cycle.

i'm surprised they're answering the phone.... they're in bankruptcy court , about to be sold..

the product will  remain on the market, but someone else will own it

I talked to them last summer. The product is good just trying to make it easier on me and my wallet.
