Hi,
We live in Seattle Wa and have some moss growth on our roof (we bought the house last year.) I bought some Lilly Miller Moss Out Roof spray. I haven’t sprayed it on yet and wondered if anyone had any suggestions. It says if sprayed on painted material it could cause staining. We just had our house repainted this year. For most of the house there won’t be an issue, except in one area where the roof butts up against the painted exterior. Has anyone used these products before? There is also a powder form but our roof is very steep and I’m not a big fan of crawling to the top.
Anyway, thanks for any suggestions.

I believe either copper or zinc strip nailed at upper portion of roof, in combination with the rain helps tp prevent & eliminate mold on rooftops. It is some type of chemical reaction with the metal & h2O???
Chipper Please ask others, to clarify!
Zinc is toxic to mosses & molds.A strip of Galvanized anything will work, however if youv,e got a large ,preexisting buildup,it may take a while to kill it all. After it turns brown you can hose or pressure wash.

ya don't have ta wait for the moss to die to pressure wash it away - I'd wash it and then use the zinc cap strip to control - - after you pressure wash, ya could use the mossout in a conservative fashion, staying well away from paint - the zinc is good for prevention, not too good to catch up with a problem...
...and you have to put the zinc where the rain runs over it - on the section against the siding, if there is an overhang that pretty much keeps the flashing dry, ya need the strip down far enough to catch the rain...
Do you know if a copper strip causes deterioration of aluminum gutters?
I've installed copper roofs over aluminum gutters with the warning that the gutters might prematurely deteriorate. Haven't seen a problem yet (15+ years). The snow sliding off the copper usually destroys the gutters long before they begin to deteriorate. The small strips necessary for what you need won't create any problem. Unpainted galvanized gutters are a different story. Most asphalt shingles manufactured in the last 5 or so years contain copper flecks to control algae.
Don't pressure wash unless you think early replacement of your roof is a good idea or you want to make a roofer happy.
I use Roundup, myself. Bleach and water work, too, but don't last as long.
Zinc and copper strips help, but can give uneven results.
The attached pic shows how copper flashing around skylights can affect moss growth and roof colors on a church roof I saw last fall:
Tool Donations Sought
I'm matching tool donors to a church mission to Haiti - we're shipping a bus converted to a medical facility in (now it looks like) April and can fill it with clothes, tools and all sorts of stuff needed in that poorest of all countries. A few hand tools or power tools can provide a livelihood for an otherwise destitute family. Please email me if you have tools to donate.
Thanks to Jeff and David and Jim and Rich and Steven and Mark and Jason and Shep and Jen and Mike and Joe and Bill and Ken for their offers!
Several donations have arrived! Thanks and God bless!
nice picture Bob, good eye - - thanks
I'd hate to see anyone use roundup in my nieghborhood as most houses are required to hook up to storm sewer systems that drain straight into the pacific where beautiful salmon are busy looking for my hook.I only like the two eyed fish. ;)
...........Rik........
I don't use so much that it runs into the gutters.
My downspouts run onto my lawn and I haven't had any problems with the grass at the end of the downspout extensions.
