I am a finish carpenter and was smart enough to have a builder bring my addition up to finish plaster, but not smart enough to sub out the tile. Already have a copper pan set for a shower. What should I use for a mud set for the tile?

Is it absolutely too late to sub out the shower? Unless you want to take on a fairly detailed project that will require a lot of research, a lot of time-consuming careful work, and some new skills, I'd take a pass. I've done showers and will probably do more, but only if I can't find someone more experienced to do them. In fact, I recently committed to two as part of a project and am scrambling to find a tilesetter for them.
The copper pan is interesting. Is it somehow mated to the drain so as to be watertight? Does it have a slope to the drain or is it just sitting level on the subfloor? If it's not mated and it's level, it's probably gonna hafta come out.
