I need to remove old acrylic caulk that is hard and brittle on the exterior of my house and recaulk.
Has anyone used a oscillating multi tool for this task and what blade? Is it possible to use an OMT without damaging the wood siding (cedar)?
TIA

Get a caulk removal blade and see how it goes. I used one to do several places of caulk, but none were fossilized acrylic.
There is always a bit of a learning curve. start someplace you don't look at every day.
Thanks
Their scraper blade does work.
But, the grain of the wood might direct its path. Working away from the grain does help.
However, with like caution to grain direction, so does a stiff but thin putty knife. Or even a utility knife. If the bond is minimal, score and pull will often remove a long strip of caulk while doing no damage.
Thanks for the reply. I have to remove a house worth of caulk, so I was hoping to find a power tool to make it faster and easier. I’ll try a thin putty knife in a spot and see how it goes.
I've had good success using the hook style knife on the multi tool. For really hard caulking a heat gun to soften it up will help.
Thanks for the reply. I think I know what type of blade you are referring to. I’ll check it out.
The heat gun is a good idea too.
Thanks
