First time posting here, been living in my Chicagoland bungalow for about 2.5 years and making it my own one step at a time, here is the living room which is just such a great place to be: Before…..notice wood burning stove on the right hand side….
Leading to front foyer with vintage door and the front hallway is nothing but basic finish materials with no finish….
Looking towards the kitchen….
I did the foyer and front hallway already….
Removed old vintage door….
New custom oak threshold….
Begining of rehab….the wood burning stove is gone….
Removed base molding, chair rail and crown molding….
Radiator which will have a great cover over it a year later…..

Laying out the palet for the wall colors…

Opps…..decided to make the door openings larger and remove all the trim and mud everything…..a carpenter that I never hired….
Getting the floor resurfaced…..
Making the valence’s….
Having all the openings turn into drywall instead of trim…
View Image View Image View Image View Image
Custom Jam Extension for new office door…..
Valence attachments…
Repainted almost 1/3 of the squares, new lighting up in the foyer….
First radiator cover built and installed….
Foyer with new glass plate…..
Hung my first door….trimmed it out…all maple
My office door to be trimmed out…

Backside of custom made drape by my other half…

40th birthday present comes…..
I customize the table….
Custom cleats for a “poor man’s art project”…
And the finished project…..

Here is the radiator cover I built, it's super nice, about 110" long and 24" wide, the top is made of two pieces and everything is solid maple with exception of removable birch plywood panels that can be taken out if you need access to the radiator. You just take the drawers out to remove the panels.

Framing nailer and watch for scale.

The six drawers I made from scratch yesterday, going to have a finish piece of 3/4" maple on them....

There will be four shelves, two per outboard "cubbie", and six drawers, three per section inboard of the "cubbie", outboard of the radiator section...made the drawers previously, they will have solid maple fronts.

So here is where I'm at.....finished the fronts, finished the cubbies except for the shelves, sanded and put on 4 coats of poly on the inside of the cubbies, and two coats everywhere else on the inside to seal the thing.... It's covering two outlets on the wall, so that I put outlets on the furniture that I will hardwire in.....it also have four lights that dim at three levels for above each of the shelf sections, you can see the light switch under the front of it......just so you know, this thing is backwards and upside down now.....

The cubbie sides and back are in....the drawer section goes in the two middle sections.....

I'm wiring it up.....got lights that have a three setting dimmer power supply, the switch is just a static button.....Hampton Bay from Home Depot (I hate that store). The switch is the white thing, it will be just under the lip when flipped over.

Looks great.
Lots of great old bungalows in Chicagoland. Are you in the suburbs or Chicago proper?
Good call on widening the doorways.
I am in Forest Park.
waaaayyy cool :)and the 'square' room is great . . . we designed something similar for the interior of a non-profit a year ago. Always amazing how such simple moves can make such a difference.
Your lady is pretty and nice shoes and feet! O- nice work too.
Lmc
the color sucks, but the lady on the couch aint bad
I noticed that one too but thot it might be his daughter...women were invented so carpenters wouldn't rule the world!!!I don't Know what I am doing
But
I am VERY good at it!!
Paul,
Welcome to Breaktime. Many BT Forum members are on dail up or flyover country.
Nice work. Did you have any bleed through masking off the diferent color fields?
Chuck Slive, work, build, ...better with wood
Taping the walls off was very time consuming, about 8 hours I would say. I developed a system of cutting the tape on an angle, and each corner of the vertical and horizontal would meet at the long part of the angle to make a crisp corner. No bleed through.
Try having four colors of paint for the squares ready, four brushes and four rollers.
Once you put the second coat on, you have to remove the tape, which took about another 2 hours or so.
All I can say is WOW! Who's your decorator? :)I love the glass with the backlighting...Your color pallet is soooo good...You need to come out here to the SW and see some of the wonderful glass art...Kudos to you and whomever helped you...
Really nice work Paul!! I can see how much thought went into all of that and how you probably thought about it non stopped. Gets physically and mentally exhausting at times doesn't it? Hmmmm, maybe just for us old guys over 50...lol.
Looks like you plan on staying awhile. Certainly no ...what I call, "real estate white" in there...thank god.
All I can say is ENJOY!!! "You deserve it"!
Be well
Namaste'
andy...
You know, not to generalize, but the 29% of people who still support President Bush are the ones who love to pronounce themselves more patriotic than the rest of us. But just saying you're patriotic is like saying you have a big one. If you have to say it, chances are it's not true.

Nice work! Good design, good execution, good color choice (says DW, the artist),; wonderful "feel" to the room.
Can't say enough. Let's see more of your work
