My wife and I built this ceiling over a period of time. The animals were painted from stencils that I drew up from an old picture of some Arts & Crafts fireplace tile. The hundreds of wooden pieces were all precut and prefinished; I was able to assemble the gridwork in a day.
And yes, we eat most nights in the dining room, unless the kids have Aikido.
