Decided to put the handyman tool box down and pick my bags up and go to work.
Here’s the before.
This will be a 3 season porch addition.
I had previously posted asking about 3 season porch ideas.
Got a few pics from DieselPig. Went with his design.
Thank you.

Where is What DieselPig sent me.
Roughly about 12' wide by 14'
Rather than screens all around.. I Put Glider windows in instead. and a 6.0 sliding patio door that'll open up to the 8x8 cedar grilling deck.
Interior...
Vaulted wood ceiling
Laminant wood floor
French doors from dining room to the 3 season.
if it is three season will the cold affect the laminate floor...no more than if it was solid wood. What about the moisture?

Honestly.... im not sure.
One thing i do know.... After i installed the floor, I just threw all the scrapes into a pile out the window. Few small pieces.. some full pieces. After about 30 some days of exposure to rain... humidity.. sun....
I picked up those full pieces of flooring.... and nothing. No damage... no warping, cracking, fading... nothing.
Perfect condition still.
Thought that was a good indicator.

Thanks. You know.. I tried resizing with IRFAN view... according to instructions I read here.
Back to the drawing board.
Thanks John for the help.

Hey dude... for the record... those pictures of the completed three-season room are my work. :)
I think those barn doors look best in that application, but you can also buy those smaller roll up doors like mini-warehouses have.
A friend built a large detached garage as a shop. He has large rollup doors on the front that he can drive his truck/etc in, and then the smaller rollup door on the back that he drives his lawn tractor through into the yard. Pretty handy.
But as I said, I think those barn doors look much better below that 3 season porch.
And speaking of pics, isn't it about time for you to feed us some pics or whatever you're working on now? jt8

Funny cuz I hate those doors! LOL.... I thought it looked better open, but the owner really wanted me to close it all off with the T-111 and whip together some doors so he could get his ATV's out of the rain. Oh well.... they can't all be FineHomebuilding, right?
I've been meaning to take some pictures of what I've been up to, but I've done nothing but additions this whole summer. Seems like they go by so fast that by the time I remember to bring a camera it's too late. Too bad too because we've done some really cool roofs with wacky angles this summer. I'll try to get back at it though. My own house is officiall "done" as of today as well. Furniture got delivered this afternoon. Only thing left is for the guy to hook up the surround sound. I can't wait. All the boxes of components are sitting on my living room floor.View Image
Is the TV hooked up?

The TV is good to go dude. Picture is killer on the HD stations. No surround sound yet.... Circuit City screwed up and never scheduled the install. Gotta wait a week for that, but to be honest it was an afterthought anyway.
Go Stillers! (Tonight anyway). The game I'm really kinda looking forward to is the Manning v Manning on Sunday.View Image
Heres is a few of the almost finished.
Dont be afraid to tear into me. This is my first addition. Hopefully not the last.
Good Luck
Yer doin' great Steve, keep pluggin' away and keep the pictures coming.View Image

OK, you asked for it. The Tyvek is installed upside down! Just kidding - looks great."...never charged nothing for his preaching, and it was worth it, too" - Mark Twain
So far so good. Keep the pics flowing.

the immediate question is.....
Am I getting the picture resizing... and adjusting right?
Am I getting the picture resizing... and adjusting right?
Yeah, that last batch was really good. Pic size was good and file size was good. Even slow dial-up folks can dl 'em.

Its pretty easy to work with IRFAN View.. once you take the time to figure it out. Couple hours after dinner.
Couple shouts from the wife... what the H%ll are you doing down there??
and before you know it....
Thanks for the help and direction.

Maybe it's just me - and I'm certainly not a pro - but those unbraced posts really make me uncomfortable.
It also seems like a pretty good span from the houst to the outside beam. I'm assuming that you did all the calcs and strengthened the perimiter joists to ensure it could hold the additional load of the walls & roof. (I can't remember if this was already covered...)
Don't get me wrong - looks great and I hope it's the start of a long and successful career!
What we have running out from the house is....
Doubled up (2) 11 7/8 LVL Rim boards on each side. Yep... calculations were done.
Cause we were going to use Micro Lam's all around.
But Rim Boards carry that weight just fine.

Yep, that'd do it! I figured as much, but had to ask, since if I recall correctly this was build on an existing deck.
Are you planning any diagonal bracing between the posts?
no.
I really dont think I need it.
What concerns you?
Like I said, I'm not a Pro. Maybe I'm supertisous, but I always like to diag-brace decks so that when the party gets hoppin the deck ain't rockin. I've never seen a deck - or a house on piers (there are a lot here in the hills) - without the bracing. Of course, this is earthquake country.
Those ARE big posts, and depending on how you anchored them top and bottom it could be pretty stiff.
I just did a deck frame last Sat. and used Simpson post base and post cap for the first time. My posts were 4x4 and beams 4x8 - I was really impressed by how much all that steel (plus of course 36 16d HDG commons!) stiffened up the frame - way better than toenails into pier blocks and the beam - LOL!
I'm not seeing the beam that is holding all those joists.
Is there a beam or is there just a joist notched into the 6x6 posts?
Nice Job!

Now... there we did use a micro-lam.
11 7/8 micro-Lam

Could you edit the name on those last 3 pictures for me.... please
Your actual photo size was good, but saved as a BMP they will be large (JPG would save smaller). BMP's are great for not losing any detail when you save 'em, but the resulting large file sizes make them unfriendly for internet use (unless everyone has high-speed internet connections).
