That looks great Andy. Try to go back and get some pictures when it is finished.
Just one comment. In many areas, building codes require that a four inch ball cannot pass through any of the balusters or any other part of the stair. The gap from your base rail to the treads would not pass. Little ones can squeeze through. Often a continuous railing is also needed for the seniors. That would mean another rail on the opposite wall. Keep up the nice work, you have a good eye for design.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
Andy: Your stairs look very nice..I like that newel detail also.

I guess the 4" rule doesn't apply under the shoe rail here (Washington state). The designer knows code well, I doubt she would have let that slip by. Thanks for the kind words.
Love the newel inlay detail. Code where I am says 7" sphere can't pass thru under the bottom rail, 4" between balusters. Looks like you might just make it.
Nice job, Andy!

andy.. teh work is fantastic... you're going to have a great career..
question... on the design.. why does the stair terminate at the landing instead of one riser below?
i noticed it made things a little awkward ..or whimsical.... depending on your viewpoint ..

It actually does terminate at the riser, the HO requested that we add a false return and stringer fascia at the level of the landing to bring the stringer to the wall. The original framing incorporated the top tread on the stringer into the landing, I guess it was one tread too tall and they chose to enlarge the landing rather than cut it. :-)
