My first table

MarineEngineer | Posted in Photo Gallery on April 9, 2005 01:20am

Moving to Manhattan soon (as long as the interview with the co-op board is successful) and my current kitchen table is too big, so I decided to make a new one.

The first pic is the table that the girl has there right now, an inspiration as far as size.

I wanted the legs to be removable, so I came up with an apron design that allows the legs to slip in and out. I cut half lap joints out of 5/4″ x 4″ pine.

The table top was made out of three prefab pine stair treads. I cut the bullnose off, ripped them to 10″ each, and glued them up using a bunch of biscuits for alignment. My tools are limited, so it’s not perfectly flat, but I’m happy enough with it.

the finish is Benjamin Moores "Stay Clear" acrylic polyurethane. It's a water based finish. I did 8 coats on the top, sanding with 320 grit paper inbetween. 4 coats on everything else.Marine Engineer

just don't tell the Board that you know anything about BT or Andy.  You'll never get in.

Congratulations.  And I'm still waiting on Andy to do a little something for me (what's that you say about he*l freezing over?), so if you're waiting for his help, get a large stock of Coronas.

I was quoting Andy.  But not having met you, I can still hope you meant music and not windbags when referring to 'Rush'.  ;)

    Looks good.

Looks like you spent a little time getting that top to shine like that.

Your shop looks very similar to mine.  Great ventilation.
