My local electric company was working on the power lines in my neighborhood. Fourteen homes received varying levels of a power surge. I lost a number of appliances including my furnacetransformer, garage door opener, tv, vcr, stereo, etc. A number of my appliances failed within days of the surge. I have been advised by the electric company to have my home inspected by a licensed eelectrician. I have talked with two who were recommended by my city’s Electrical Inspector. I have been given conflicting advise. One stated that he would inspect my home, look for damage and provide me with a report. The other stated that I needed to have all of the electricall lines in the house inspected. He referred to a process called “maggering”. He also stated that any appliance in the home will fail within a year due to the damage caused by the surge.
Does anyone have any knowledge with the above or experience in this area. I am quite concerned that my home’s electrical system has been damaged and I have a potential fire hazard.
