My house has OSB clapboard siding nailed directly to 2×4 trusses on gable end.

My 1990 block home uses OSB siding (12” wide clapboard) on the gable ends. There is no plywood behind the siding. There is tar paper across the 2x4s verticals of the trusses at the gable end with the OSB siding nailed directly to that. I read that it is acceptable (in FL) to use the OSB siding a structural component.
Now I want to replace the OSB siding with cement board siding.
Can I install it the same way or do I need to put up plywood first, then tar paper (or rain screed), then cement board siding?

Plywood first. I'd use Zipwall and then Hardi on top. Voids the warranty to nail onto studs plus you want the strength of the plywood on your gables. Now would be the time to do the winf mitigation updates on your gables trusses too.

I was figuring that plywood would be needed - of course that add a new problem to the job. With the addtional thickness of the plywood (or zip system), the bottom edge of the clapboard will now protude past the front face of the block/stucco. So I assume I'll need flashing from the plywood over the top of the block.
I think is now a professional job and not a DIY job. Do you do jobs in the central Fl area - or know a good contractor that works in south-east seminole county?
I should post a picture to explain what I've got going on.
Thanks
Yes, you'd need a Z flashing there to make sure the water runs down. Sorry, I don't leave Lee County any more and I don't know anyone in the area that could help.
