I was watching a show last night on HGTV, I think it was before and after with pat simpson, anyway there was a guy shooting vinyl siding with a paslode gun. I thought that you couldn’t get a nail gun to leave the nails proud for vinyl. does paslode or any other manufacturer make a special model to handle this or was this guy just caught on camera making a major boo boo? did he perhaps have his air on real low so as to not drive the nail fully? I know that Hitachi makes a gun that shoots the nails with the little plastic washers for insulation board. I really don’t have much of an application for one but just was real curious.

I have a Senco roofing nailer with an attachment that centers the nail in the slot. The depth is adjustable, and I loved it. Couple of siding guys that helped me out used hammers. Oh, well.

*I have a paslode with a few different safety attachments(nose piece) for different sidings. One for Norandex Sagebrush, and another for Alside center lock. They center the staple, and leave proud (air pressure does this the best) Paslode makes them, as does a local machine shop for the local nail/gun supplier. You can fly with a gun!
*Steve, the notion that lowering the air pressure to leave a fastener proud is a little off. I tried that years ago with poor results. If I happened to hit a knot, the nail would be reeeeeeal proud. The gun tended to cycle poorly too.I finally took the driver out and ground it on the wheel. That worked alot better. Nowadays many guns have adjustments or attachments to facilitate differing nail depths. Grinding the driver works good too though...blue
*Thanks guys, I don't really do any of outdoor work yet, ie siding and stuff. I work on a weekend and evening basis in this field and limit myself to minor indoor remodeling, someone wants some countertops, revamp a kitchen, add some wall details, electrical work, y'know the lightweight stuff. As I build my business from a part time venture to a more stable full time thing I will be able to fall back on all of the good input you guys have given me. Many thanks to all of you.
*Dennis, Where did you get the attachment for the Senco?
*Try the Senco web site - just a general search I guess. I am sure if you contact them, they will direct you to a supplier. I had to get mine from a distributer in Minneapolis - name escapes me. Other than only driving 1 1/2" nails, the darn thing is slick, and fast.Dennis
*Steve, Good timing on your question. The current issue of FHB (#137) page 130 carries a brief review of a new Paslode stapler; it comes with 3 different contact tips, one of which is intended for vinyl siding. They gave it a good review. GPW
*I had to order it from the local Senco dealer, Home Depot can get them also. Part number is HC0260. It's about $25. I couldn't find anyone online that carried the part. That number is for the SCN40R nailer.
