nail gun for wood siding

Dave10990 | Posted in Construction Techniques on June 16, 2004 01:29am

I am doing a renovation on a 200 yr old house.  We have replaced the sills and top plate, sistered against beams and infill framing.  About to start the wood siding.  I am wondering if anyone uses a certain nail gun to nail wood siding, with SS nails.  I checked the Paslode website, thinking an impulse nailer would be easy to use, but they seem to indicate it is strictly a framing gun.  Any suggestions?

Hitachi makes a great side walling gun and it shoots stainless steel nails up to 2 1/2 ``nails , i should  know i have a couple although i have`nt used them for siding but for other stuff like trim applications.......here is the number on the gun......NV65AH coil nailer,

    hope that helps you out

"but they seem to indicate it is strictly a framing gun"

The impulse has an adjustable nose and can shoot min.2" nails.

They even have a no mar tip for that gun but I've haven't used it,

    really haven't had to.

But if you already got a compressor than you might want to look at the Hitachi

325 year old house not that that matters but so far for the wood roof and all exterior walls I odered three Max nail guns one after the other.

I'm sure others have better answers but thats jus' my current experiance.

If they are so good, why have you bought three?

I've had my Senco SCN56 siding nailer for 5 years, not a lick of trouble. Never even jamms. My only complaint about this and many other guns is they still fire when out of nails. When all else fails, use duct tape!

<<<If they are so good, why have you bought three?>>>

I bought three within a few weeks of each other....one for each of my guys to use. Not because anything happened to them.

Dave: Bostitch make a very good siding gun, and you can get SS nails for the gun , I've used it before and had good success. See link below for info on thr nailer. good luck.

          Max      Model  CN890S

This is a high quality coil nailer w adjustable height magazine.... shoots siding nails and adjusts all the way to 16d    most versatile gun i've used, shoot siding, ring shanks for sheathing, framing up to 16d...     uses same coils as stanley bostitch, so s.s. nails and other sizes are easily found    generics work great in it

I have the Hitachi NV65AH. Nice gun although Iv'e had trouble with generic nails sticking.
