Hi, I from South Africa, and most houses are built with bricks, so timber houses are rare here. I intend to add-on rooms using timber, and Fine Homebuilding is a great resource. As timber houses is not a trend here, I can’t find the info I need locally.
I’ve read on the web about coil vs stick nailers, but what I need to know is nail sizes/lengths recommended for framing before I buy a nailer. 90 mm (335⁄64in) adequate for general framing? Would the 130 mm (51⁄8in) be an overkill?

depends...
What are the dimensions of your framing lumber?
Here almost all residential framing is done with 3.5" [88mm] nails and shorter. The 5" nailer is a rarely seen specialty tool for most house work.
Most hand nailing of standard 2x4 framing in the US is done with 10d (3 inch/76 mm) and 16d (3.5 inch/89 mm) nails. 20d (4 inch/102 mm) nails will be occasionally be used for larger members. Power nailers use some in-between sizes.
Nail thickness?
Thank you for the advice here.
I've made a decision to get myself a Bostitch coil nailer and had a look at the Bostitch website, and there's so many nailers to choose from. This brings me to ask another question. The coil nailer models come in ranges that handle nail diameter, which range from 2.02 mm to 3.33 mm, and lengths.
What is the average nail diameters that you guys use for general framing? What does your buidling codes dictate?

I see no one's answered you on the diameter question. The diameters available here are generally 0.131 in, 0.120 in, and 0.113 in. (roughly 3.33 mm, 3.05 mm, & 2.87 mm), The 0.131 in dia is used for just about all framing. 0.120 in dia for nailing off sheathing etc.
