   sounds like you know the answer yourself, stainless is the best option, if not, use HDG nails. i, personally, facenail, that way your sure of no cupping.

   *stainless, face nailed...there is no other way to go. Throw away the galvanized nails and spend the money on the stainless. Eddie has got it right!

   *Joel, You say your siding is 6". Is that actual width or is it dimensional width, ie 1/2x 6 beveled siding? Around here , the actual width of 6" bevel is closer to 5-1/4". The reason I bring this up is that beveled siding is face nailed close to the bottom edge, but only as such as to touch the top edge of the preceeding course. So if your siding measures an actual 6" in width and you want 4" exposure, your course nailing should be about 2-1/16" up from the bottom edge of each course. If in fact the width actual measures 5-1/4", then your course nailing would be at 1-5/16" from the bottom edge.As far as nails to use; I have used SS and galvanized on cedar, redwood and pine siding with very little problem with leaching. I personally like the MAZE splitless 6 or 7d galvanized nail for my lap siding. But either selection as long as it is a siding nail would work from my experience.walk gooddavid
