Installing 2×6 fascia to match existing fascia on house. The rafter tails are 56 year old 2×4 that are in great shape. What would you use? Nails, screws or nail screws. Do have framing nailer if nail or nail screw Approach and impact driver if screw route.

That is some old hard wood.
Predrill the holes and use #9 or #10 screws, then fill the driving slots with wax (mash it with a candle) before you fill and sand. If you ever need to pull the facia, you can dig out the recess and pull it without damaging the 2x4. Do it correctly, and you can re-use the holes over and over.

Screw it!! Easy to adjust, pulls up tight and holds better in the long run. And you don't have to beat your brains out with a hammer.
