Nails, Staples Or Both?
Help me out gang. I’m considering a Bostich combo finish nailer/ staple gun. It will fire either or and seems to be a well built tool. (I like my 2 other bostich coil nailers) It uses up to 1-5/8 nails and staples. I don’t generally do finish trim work, but have a big job upcoming where I suspect a pneumatic will be a big help.
No need to propagate rumors, but have you any thoughts?
My biggest concern is proper depth of fire and a clean finish hole to the nail/staple head after firing.

If it only goes to 1-5/8ths, I'd think that too short for a wide variety of finish applications. 2-1/2" is great, 2" will work most times. Staples on finish work for the most part look cheap, what's not seen work fine. Course that's just a dumb carpenters opinion.

Ya know there is that 1-5/8ths thing. Thanks for the info. Yea, staples look cheap in trim...I thought they would be the bonus for other stuff. Plus the hidden items. I was just thinking....2 tools in one, versatility, yda, yda, yda.
Be Well.
I agree, atleast 2 or 2 1/2 " nails are a must. The combo probably shoots brads, not nails. I staple my casing to the jamb (holds much better) then I shoot it to the framing with 2 1/2" nails and finish up with 1 1/4" brads in the miters.
Thanks, however, how do you staple the case to the Jam? does it then get putty and paint? On another note, do the finish nailers have enough "umph" to shoot through 5/4 dry oak? Most of my trim work....well, this trim job is 3/4 to 5/4 oak with an oil finish. Gotta look real nice.
