Need a case for Blades

xosder11 | Posted in General Discussion on May 12, 2006 09:49am

I know others have asked in ther past, but I couldn’t find any info with the search function. I am looking for a case to hold circular saw blades. Anyone know where I can find one. Seems like it should be easy to find, but damned if I can find one anywhere. Can anyone help
Thanks
Andrew

Check Duluth Trading - shop on line.

Let's not confuse the issue with facts!

Is the case for keeping them in your shop or transporting them to jobsites? If they'll be staying in the shop, making one from scraps of nice wood is an idea. Otherwise, a hardwood plywood box with a drop down front and a stud that screws into a block (with a threaded insert) and a wingnut would do the job, too.

How many blades do you need to store?

Bosch provides one with the 4000 model table saw. I imagine they sell it by itzsef too.

depending on size a 'cheapy' solution for temp. use could be the round metal cooky tins with cardboard spacers...again, temp. only but the Duluth item is one I have.

That Forrest holder looks good.  I went though this same problem around Christmas looking for a gift.  The Bosch was the only one I could find but no dealer would order it.  It only came with the tablesaw.

The guy (my brother in law) I was trying to buy this for has a birthday coming up so this info is most timely.  Thanks.

seams like an easy project to me. less than 15 mintutes to fasten the bolt to a piece of wood with the wingnut. in less then a couple of hours you could esily finess an nicer version that would make a suitable gift. would be much more apreciated than a bought one.

I've got the Bosch saw and the case sits on it, but it only holds couple blades anyway. most my blades sit on the 'bolt and wingnut' set up mounted to the outside of a 2'x2' cubed box self that I have in my garage.

    What size blade?  7 1/2",  10", or 12"  ?

1 - measure the board twice, 2 - cut it once, 3 - measure the space where it is supposed to go        4 - get a new board and go back to step 1

7 1/2" circular saw blades. I also own a 12" cms that I may want something similar for in the future.

You might keep you eye out for a case from a laptop computer.  I lucked into one a few years ago and it's great. Thin, padded, good handle, etc.  I just put a thin piece of grey cardboard between each blade. Plus it was free...Buic

Home depot sells a real nice one that hold a good 20 blades and has pouches for drill bits or recip blades and outer pockets.Has dividers and seperate pockets.

I have that Forrest blade holder; it is nice -- but you still need some sort of separators for the blades. I use it mainly to transport blades to the sharpening service.

For the truck, my solution was to cut off a bunch of 1/8" masonite blanks on the circle cutting jig for my bandsaw -- some for 7 1/4", others for 10" blades. I then stack the blades I want to carry around, and run a 1/2" bolt with a thumb screw to hold them all together. With this set up, you can toss the blades in a bin or on a shelf, and they're well protected.
