Hi All,
My cub scout troop needs a place to store all the stuff. We looked into a 40′ container, but the troop is low on money. Any ideas on getting one cheap?
Thanks
Kevin

around here you can pick up a old semi trailer for 300.00. if you have a permant place drop the axle out of it and get it close to the ground.
just something i learned a few years back. i got a 20 box off of a truck and used it to store junk in at my shop. well the thieves think if it's worth locking up it must be worth stealing. this box got broke into 4-5 times, finally i just left it unlocked, there wasn't anything worth stealing.
the best was i had about 20 pure junk tires in there waiting ti haul off, they stole em.saved me 50.00
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T
MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE
DUCT TAPE.
We just passed on a free one, but I am in Ca..
But the fact that it was offered would indicate they are out there, especially if they could get a write off for charitable donations.
Matbe contact a midsized or large commercial contractor. You would probably have to hire a truck to haul it though.

Exactly! Find a place that uses nice looking containers, and hit them up for a donation - grat idea!

Thanks Guys, I'll check around per your suggestions.
I rented some for a film to store equipment. Good rates. I think they are in NJ

$80.00 Per Month rental fee
$450.00 Drop off
$450.00 pick up
Fuel is much less so you may get a better pick up, drop off rate.
We were hoping for a one time expense, something the pack would have for many years, so rental is not practical. Thanks anyway.
Call them, you never know they may sell you one. I just drove by port Newark. lots and lots of them all piled up high.
Saw that, port Newark. I'll give them a call, thanks.
Ya know-
a certain somebody here has a house in Surf City that's not being used during the winter.
Maybe the scouts could use it.
Plus I think it would make a cool summer camp headquarters

Very Funny.
Listen, I'm searching the web for instructions on removing cedar shingles on a steep roof. You have any link to one, I'm turning up nothing.
On another note, when we left lunch the other day, I went to Wanaque to pick up some old barn doors, I had your new town confused with Montaque (?) up by Highpoint. That was the location of the tool store I spoke of.

As far as removing an old cedar roof, the way I used to do it is to use roof jacks along the edge of the roof, hook a roof ladder over the ridge, and start tearing.
If you don't have a roof ladder, you can use a regular extension ladder by taking the two sections apart, attach a stand off bracket to one section, and hook that over the ridge.
Once you've started tearing, if the shakes were applied (as they should have been) over skip sheathing, you can use that for footholds. try to walk near a rafter, tho. The old sheating can be brittle, and break under weight.
Or, you let your fingers do the walking, and hire somebody to do the tear-off. Its nasty, dirty work.
oh man, I just agreed to do the roof on an old aluminum sided vicky this summer that has two layers of asphalt shingles over cedar shakes.
Wonder if it's too late to back out:o)
Oi!
Yer much more ambitious than I am LOL

Most of the paces that rent will sell. Mike
