   Good luck. I don't know about the mason the other poster recommended, but I've never seen a region so berift of competent trades as the Poconos.

   You're right about that, Andy. Mom regales me with the sad tales of experiences with contractors--sometimes I even hear a name I recognize from high school! Lately she's been telling me about finally having found a competent, reliable mason for her deteriorating chimney--all work through referrals/word-of-mouth--so it's serendipity that he asked when he did.

   Lack of competent people explains why I have been asked to travel for work up there. It only happens every couple years but next time maybe I will take them up on it. Sounds like I could get a fair price and maybe a free getaway. Btw I am a window and door installer/carpenter not a mason

   A free getaway? Man, every time I go to the Poconos, I don't feel free until I get away. There's some pretty country around there, but the traffic and congestion is awful. I spent most of my life near there, and hate the place. It's one of Dante's Circles, I'm sure.Andy

   I just moved there last year, and have had a tough time finding people who will even show up to bid on something!!  On the other hand, they appreciate my woodworking and I don't seem to have too much trouble staying busy.  I am working on a finish staircase for a guy who just finished his chimney, and they did a nice job.  He's in E.    did you find someone yet?  I am finishing a staircase for a guy who just redid his chimney, and they did a nice job.  I don't know who did it, but if you are still looking, I'll ask.
