Howdy there. We just moved to Norway from New York state. I’m back to carpentry after a few years in the supply house end. Code here requires a minimum of 4″ nails for most framing and a whopping 5″ for some more critical stuff. Since the ol’ Porter Cable can’t handle anything that size, I find myself using my hammer a lot more, and I’m not real happy about it. It’s a Stanley anti vibe at 22 oz. I’m looking for a new one, especially at the Stilettos, but $220 for a hammer…Jeez Any feedback?

Thanks....At least everythings on 2 foot centers.
Howdy snekker.
Dems some big nails. Check out a Vaughn Ti-Tech framing hammer. I had a Stilletto Ti-Bone and I actually like these Vaughn's much better. They're about $80, IIRC and can be had with either a fiberglass or a hickory handle. They're titanium, 16 oz, with a steel striking face that can be replaced or swapped from smooth to milled via an allen screw. It''ll still let you two-swat a 16D but won't make your elbow ring.
I've got to have a wood handled hammer, so these are the perfect marriage of new and old materials.... titanium and hickory. Good bang for the buck.... no pun intended. And they're seriously the sweetest hammer I've ever swung.

That would be my approach.
I would have to agree with deisel pig that the vaughan ti tech is better for the big ones than the stilettos (I've four of them) the 16oz stiletto just doesn't feel all that balanced. I've the fibreglass handled vaughan and I find it pretty easy to use.
