I’ve been watching youtube videos on house designs and have been inspired by passive house principles providing a healthy and comfortable living space. Me & my wife wish to have a house of our own soon. Quality air is what we need to manage our son’s asthma. Problem is – almost all those youtube channels are based in the US creating houses made of wood, insulation, designed for 4 seasons, and they have all the awesome technology available to them.
I live in an area with Summer and Rainy seasons only. Pretty much always humid. It’s usually 32°C + during the day and 25°C+ during the night. Houses here are made of concrete exterior and interior walls.
What are your recommendations given the following:
1. 3-Storey House, 250sqm total floor area (4 Bedrooms, 4 T&B, 2 60sqm living spaces, closed kitchen room) and has to be made of concrete
2. House location is near the airport, you can hear airplane noise every 5-15 minutes. Very loud – windows have to be closed 24/7 most likely.
3. House location is sunny and humid in an urban area
4. Most common air conditioning units available are window type units
5. Whole house ducting, whole house dehumidifiers, whole house air filters, ERV, or HRV residential systems are impractical since they all have to be shipped from abroad and can’t claim warranty on equipment besides being not affordable already.
6. Window manufacturers only have up to double-pane windows. I’ve been trying to look for triple-pane to no avail.
7. Compartmentalization would be ideal so that electricity can be used only where it is needed.
8. No fireplace.
8. Hopefully inexpensive to maintain.
A managed air is what my family needs but I have no idea how this can be done my area. The architects and engineers I’ve talked to so far have no experience in this “passive house” principle. I hope someone can help with execution ideas as well as equipment recommendations. Thanks guys!
