Need advice on finding a foundation guy

gb62 | Posted in General Discussion on August 17, 2008 01:54am

Architect’s drawings are complete, engineering is underway, and planning for construction continues (I am the homeowner). I have an excavator and carpenters (three brothers!) lined up. But am having trouble locating possible outfits to build the foundation in a difficult location. Google and the yellow pages just don’t seem to list too many firms that do foundations. Is there some business-to-business listing where I can get more possibilities? Some other way to locate these folks?

I recently placed an ad in Craigslist and had six foundation contractors respond. Its still running and I might get some more.

    Bob's next test date: 12/10/07

Quote of the day: "...can't be done, it will take too long, not enough pipeline capacity, yada yada but yet they don't apply the same skepticism to their own "solutions" such as wind and biofuels"

What category did you post your ad in?

skilled trades.Interestingly, I placed another one seeking a licensed plumber for small projects. I mentioned that permits have to be pulled. My intention is to get a larger pool of small plumbing contractors to call because schedules get filled easy for the small guy. Anyways, I get a nasty reply from someone telling me that he didn't know what I was trying to pull and that ONLY LICENSED MASTER PLUMBERS can pull permits and that he hopes that state board gets wind of what I'm doing!!!!I briefly thought about engaging him in some conversation but thought the better of it and hit the delete button. I gotta wonder though....if I say that permits have to be pulled and only licensed master plumbers can pull permits..what trick did he think I have up my sleeve? Bob's next test date: 12/10/07

Maybe he interpreted the ad to mean that you only wanted a plumber to pull the license while you did the work undercutting the licensed guys

I can and should ask the carpenters. But the job is so challenging (no road access - only boat access), it's going to take a creative and smart person/firm to be willing take this on.

Your carpenters should be able to do it with bag concrete. Bob's next test date: 12/10/07

I'm in the northeast too, but you probably need to be more specific about location.

Have these three carp brothers never worked with any crete people before?

Call the local Ready Mix supplier and ask them for a list of good footer and foundation contractors.
