Hello- I am using spruce for window casing. It has a few knots, some of the wood comes from europe, and I think the rest is western canadian, anyway the european stuff has more resin in it. When you plane it it gives off that fresh piney smell and the wood is a little sticky. I want to make sure the knots never bleed through. What would be the best way to prime this wood? should I shellac prime the knots first ,then the whole thing with oil based? Can you mix the two like that? Any other ideas? Thanks to all.
