I’d like to create a built-in shower niche when I tile my shower. NOTE: This will be my very first experience with tiling of any kind. I’ll be using a 60×32 Schluter shower kit. I need to know what the recommended dimensions are for the built-in niche, and the recommended height from the floor. I’ll be placing the niche in 2×6 studs. Thanks for any feedback.

Well I am not a professional, but I have done some tile work.
I would try to layout size and position basised on the size tile I am using, as not to have any odd tiles cuts.
In our dream shower, my wife wants the niche about eye ball height, we both wear glasses and blind as a bat without glasses. Many time I have washed my hair with cream rinse.
Wife dosen't want to look directly into the shower and see shampoo bottles, soap and shaving stuff. She wants the niche off to the side out of sight, but assesable when showering.

You'd think it goes without saying, but I've seen the mistake (in slightly different contexts) many times: The niche should be large enough to hold whatever you're planning to put there. Make sure it's tall enough for the tallest bottle you're ever likely to want to put there (which may, eg, be a spray bottle of shower cleaner). And a little taller besides, for elbow room. And deep enough that stuff doesn't teeter on the edge.
Wow! That one really hit me up side the head. You're exactly right, Dan. It simply needs to be large enough to hold whatever I plan to put there. I feel kind of foolish for even asking now. Superb insight as always. Thanks.
