Trying to cope a fairly simple profile. Cut with a miter saw, trim with a dremel and files. But no matter how hard I work at it, I just can’t get that danged outside corner to cope properly. What am I doing wrong?

Do a search on coping with a mini grinder

I still like using a coping saw to cut. I do have to highlight the cut line by rubbing a pencil right at the cut angle, so I can see it with my old eyes.
I back cut the profile a little bit, so it has some room if the corner isn't a perfect 90.
I've tried using a Dremel, but never got far with it. I've always found it faster coping most mouldings with hand tools.
I trying to cope here, myself.
Whoopsie...I meant the other kind...oh, geez,

Are you cutting on a 45? If so, how are you setting the molding on the fence?
(No, it isn't a stupid question)
Edit: give us a break man, its getting late.

Outside corner is your problem!
Hey Fast Eddie....you pullin' a fast one on us?
Outside corners....(slapping knee)
45 deg. is for inside corners. For outside corners you need a 135 deg. miter.

Wow, thanks Ted, that's the problem: my miter saw doesn't have 135* on the scale. Need to ask Santa for a new saw. What model swings that far?"Put your creed in your deed." Emerson

You need the Acme 360 Tri-bevel glider. The slider would work, but for that kind of money you may as well get the glider. For that matter, why not splurg and get the Z-axis rotating model.
Hope that helpsSee my work at TedsCarpentry.comBuy Cheap Tools! BuildersTools.net

You'll need it to swing both ways. You might ask Rez or IMERC what they use.
Clamp a speed square to the fence, away from the blade. You can now cut damm near any angle you want..I've made a wooden one just for that reason. It'll let you make a LONG thin cut for a scarf..if yer into wearing a scarf..of wood, thats pointy.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

I've never coped an OUTSIDE corner. Just 45* or there abouts.
Could be you are coping something that should not be coped !!! Do you mean inside corner???
Ok guys, it was a joke. Just wanted to see how long it would take someone to pick up on it. I actually was coping some joints yesterday, most came out good, one is excellent, one should be redone, and my mind just started wandering ...."Put your creed in your deed." Emerson
