Need help with estimating!

Hi All,

Anyone have any good references for how they estimate residential renovations work?  Been in the business a while, and am always interested in learning different ways to estimate projects.  Read a lot of the forums and replies and what seems to be missing to me is that actual nuts and bolts of what people need help with.  How are you quoting jobs?  Are you using Excel, paper, or an online software program?  Welcome any feedback here!

    45 yrs experience for the labor, cost of doing business, and profit.

    phone call to a real live lumberyard for the cost of material.

    and since the memory is probably somewhat fog'd.......

    a legal size pad and the always present pencil.
